The Ardèche Gorges, recognised as ‘Réserve Naturelle Nationale’ (‘National Nature Reserve’), form a preserved natural environment. Its steep limestone cliffs contain a rich fauna and flora. Beyond the rapids and the hiking trails, take your time to listen to the sounds of nature and to disconnect during a night at one of the bivouacs located in the heart of the Reserve. If you would like to do the historic hiking trail of the Ardèche Gorges or the descent with a canoe for two days, bivouac areas have been set up for you! It is indeed forbidden to do wild camping in the Nature Reserve…
2 bivouacs to choose depending on your trailand their availability
You can choose between:
- the Gaud bivouac, the largest, is located at 1/3 of the descent of the Ardèche Gorges. It enables, for the 32-km trails with a canoe, a late start from Salavas, then to spend a night at the bivouac before going to a new day of descent.
- the Gournier bivouac is located halfway of the trail. It is best suited for hikers.
At both bivouacs,you will enjoy a nature entertainment with the reserve’s animators, except during the autonomous period.
Bivouacs opening dates :
- Gaud bivouac: opened from 3 May to 30 September 2021 (subject to the current sanitary provisions)
- Gournier bivouac: opened in July and August and on weekends from mid-May to the end of June (subject to the current sanitary provisions)
